Community-Based New Music Advocacy

Jan Berry Baker and Stuart Gerber of Bent Frequency will discuss the requirements for running a 501c(3) non-profit organization, establishing community partnerships, leveraging grant money as well as strategies for using creative and socially-conscious programming to create and build an engaged audience.  This presentation will give insight into our nearly 20-year history of building Bent Frequency into a nationally recognized new music ensemble and an important and well-respected arts organization within our community in Atlanta.

July 26 - Bent Frequency presents RENEW - premiere performances of 6 new works 5:00pm PT/8:00ET

Bent Frequency presents a premiere virtual program of six new works written by Charlotte New Music Festival participants. These six pieces were recorded live in the Kopleff Recital Hall at Georgia State University on May 22, 2021. The performers are Jan Berry Baker (saxophone), Brad Ritchie (cello), Erika Tazawa (piano), and Stuart Gerber (percussion). Works premiered written by Chase Chandler, Devin Cholodenko, Ben Rieke, Adam Summey, Ayako Pederson-Takeda and J. Matteo Wharton.

LA Phil at the Hollywood Bowl- Tianyu Li conducts Pictures at an Exhibition

Former Dudamel Fellow Tianyi Lu leads a blazing program that includes Mussorgsky’s unforgettable Pictures at an Exhibition—in Ravel’s dazzling orchestration—a world premiere fanfare by Ricardo Molla dedicated to the LA Phil’s brass and percussion sections, and a new Trumpet Concerto by acclaimed composer Thea Musgrave, played by one of the world’s leading trumpeters, Alison Balsom.

Bent Frequency presents SUSTAIN

On Thursday, June 3, Bent Frequency will present our final streamed concert of the 2020-2021 SUSTAIN season (and we hope this will be our final streamed-only concert forever!). Interactive roundtable with composers and performers to follow at 6 PM PDT | 9 PM EDT

Atlanta-based new music ensemble Bent Frequency, in partnership with the Lowell Milken Center for Music of American Jewish Experience, and Atlanta’s Breman Museum and Neranenah present Mare’ot/ Mirrors:  a live-streamed concert featuring extraordinary contemporary music by six women of Jewish heritage. The concert features music by Lera Auerbach, Alyssa Weinberg, Gabriela Lena Frank, Judith Shatin, Nomi Epstein and Betty Olivero. It will be followed by an audience interactive roundtable with conversations surrounding their process and their art, including composers Nomi Epstein, Judith Shatin and Alyssa Weinberg and performers Stuart Gerber and Jan Berry Baker.

Bent Frequency strives to reflect the incredible spectrum of artists contributing to contemporary classical music through consciously crafting and curating our season programs. Mare’ot/ Mirrors, is the second program in its 2020-2021 SUSTAIN series.
